B&Z Properties, Inc. and its related entities are a diversified real estate development, investment and management company located in Sacramento, California.  Jim Zurbuchen is a principal of B&Z Properties, Inc. and its related entities and in that role is responsible for portfolio financial and operational management, project feasibility, business plan implementation and asset disposition.  Working in concert with his co-principal, Bruce Bell, Jim has helped place B&Z among the region’s more successful development companies.

After graduating from Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business-Accounting emphasis, Jim began his career with Deloitte, Haskins and Sells were he became a CPA and worked as an auditor for fortune 500 clients.  While at Deloitte, he specialized in leveraged buyouts, long-term government contracting and participated in the firm’s national continuing education program as an instructor and various recruiting activities.  In 1986, Jim joined Angeles Corporation as First Vice President where he ultimately was head of the General Partner department.  In that capacity he was responsible for real estate acquisition review and approval, portfolio management, development and implementation of business plans, litigation and sales activities.  In 1991, Jim moved to Sacramento and joined Capital Builder’s and then Steele Enterprises as Chief Financial Officer and General Manager where he was responsible for portfolio management, investment analysis and feasibility, financing, deal structuring and documentation.  He also supervised the accounting, property management and administrative staff.  Jim is a licensed CPA (inactive) and real estate broker (#01886065).

In 2000, Jim and Bruce completed their acquisition of Steele Enterprises and re-cast it as B&Z Properties, Inc.  Since that time, B&Z has, in addition to managing its existing portfolio, developed over 700,000 square feet of office and commercial properties.  Included are build-to-suit projects for Progressive Insurance (160,000 sf); Allstate Insurance (two facilities totaling 95,000 sf); and the world-wide data center for Barclays Global Investors (20,000 sf).  Additionally, B&Z has been extremely involved in the acquisition, entitlement and implementation of master-planned residential communities.  Notable among B&Z’s residential projects is Verdera at Twelve Bridges, a luxury gated community in Lincoln, CA consisting of approximately 600 home sites on over 700 acres surrounding the existing Catta Verdera Country Club golf course.  B&Z’s next master planned community is KeOlalani at Waikoloa on the Big Island of Hawaii.  There B&Z will master plan and develop a singular residential community of approximately 2,500 homes and home sites once the housing market returns.

Additionally, B&Z has numerous other investments in residential and industrial land projects as well as income-producing properties.  As a complement to its development activities, B&Z is also active in the commercial property management field, providing services to its own properties as well as third party property owners.

On the personal side, Jim has been married to his wife, Anne, for over 24 years.  Together they have three children, ages 17, 20 and 22.  Jim has been involved in numerous community related endeavors, including Active 20-30, Lambda Alpha (Land Institute) as well as coaching in the Folsom Youth Soccer and Basketball Leagues.
